Welcoming Developmentally Challenged People

by Editor

What is the “new thing” that you have perceived God doing?

Welcome of people with mental illness, developmental issues, etc.

How are you cooperating with God in this activity?  How can other Christians and congregations help?

Reluctantly, sometimes including  welcoming people who are mentally ill, especially, brings a lot of challenges; welcoming folks with developmental issues means doing things differently.

From where did this “new thing” spring forth?  What need is God acting to meet through this activity?

Organically – folks showed up; need for community, even for those who are often unable to participate fully or appropriately.

What can you share to help others meeting this need?

Patience; boundaries; awareness

What have you learned through this activity?  Is there anything that you would do differently knowing what you know now?

My congregation is more welcoming, flexible and caring than I expected.
